City Jogging 2022

July 3rd – July 3rd, 2020

  • LuxOC organisation  training

Dear Club member

We’re writing to ask if you could help the Club on the morning of Sunday 3 July - that’s not next weekend, but the one after.

The FLA (the Luxembourg Athletics Federation) are organising the JP Morgan City Jogging event once again - it has been going for about 20 years, and if previous years are a guide, it is likely to attract about 2,000 people (you may already be going?). The run starts and finishes at d’Coque in Kirchberg.

This year, the organisers have asked Luxembourg Orienteering Club to offer a “Come and Try It” orienteering session, as a side event to the main 10km jog and the shorter junior jog. This works well for us, as we already have an excellent orienteering map of the area!

We will thus be setting out three simple and basic courses - one extending up into the Arboretum for adults, and two very short (about 1.0km) and incredibly easy ones designed for young children, who can run round one, and if they like it, then do the other one. If you - or your children - would like a run, do please just turn up! There’s no timing, it will be just like one of our usual training sessions.

But what we really need are some Club members to help. The main job will be explaining to absolute beginners how to get started. This being Luxembourg, language should not be a problem - but it would be good if we were to have a multilingual group of “explainers” on hand. Also, one or two people to help in putting controls out, and getting them in afterwards, would also be appreciated.

We need some people to be on hand explaining from about 08.30 until about 12.30-13.00, but you don’t have to commit to be there for the whole time. Our base will be beside the small lake just outside the Arena entrance to d’Coque (for anyone who was involved with the 2018 Park Race, that’s where the competition centre was). Because the City Jogging is a big event, please don’t try and park nearby - arrive by tram! And if you have any, please wear some Club kit, so that people can see who is available to guide them.

If you can help, please let Jonas Wolff know by email (Jonas.Wolff@iki.fi), ideally before Friday 1 July. (Jonas is our organiser for this event.) Please confirm the time period that you are willing to help for.

The reward for helping is a 2022 City Jogging tee-shirt!

This is a great opportunity for the Club to show orienteering to a wider audience - so if you can come along and give some time to help, we’d be very grateful indeed.

Thanks in anticipation

Jonas and David
