Secondly, thank you all for coming to Luxembourg OC’s first public orienteering event. We were delighted to end up with over 350 entrants, with clubs from 14 countries, making our City Race a very international event.

We hope you liked the courses and the views of our lovely old City, with many stylish modern additions. Luxembourg certainly offers three-dimensional navigation and route choices, and we as a club are very lucky to have such a challenging area to be able to offer to you.

I would also like to thank the whole of our Club for helping organise the race, not only on the day, but throughout the preparation. Many people did much hard work, but I would like to thank in particular:

  • Ondra Kotecký, both for planning courses with fiendish stairs and route choices (hope you enjoyed both these), and for many, many hours updating the map to a very high standard. Some parts of the City are so complicated that they are almost impossible to map.
  • Michael Hock, and Helga Orienteering Software, for not only doing all the entries processing and results services (all with meticulous attention to detail and meeting individual competitor’s needs and wants), but also helping us to find and rent EMIT equipment. We are also very grateful to the Belgian FRSO for making this equipment available to us.
  • The three teams of two control placers, who were out on the area at 06.30 in the rain and the dark, tying control trestles to posts and drain-pipes to stop them walking away during the race.

The Club also thanks

  • The Choral Society that owns the Sang a Klang hall, for renting the hall to us, and being so very welcoming. It was a lovely, cosy venue for our event centre.
  • The Ville de Luxembourg, Service des Fêtes et Marchés, for allowing us to use the City, and also for much encouragement and guidance during our preparation for the event.

And lastly, but certainly not least, our event sponsors, whose support, both financial and in kind, let us organise this City Race with confidence, and will now underpin the development of orienteering in Luxembourg. We really are most grateful for this backing.

We hope to see you all again in 2018!
