And our 2024 Club Champions are…

December 16th        LuxOC organisation  Luxembourg         1

…Jonas W (Overall and Men), just ahead of Maggie R (Women)! And our junior champions are Aron K (Boys) and Elishka K (Girls).

The Organiser’s spreadsheet has done its work, and the 30 Club members who ran in our Club Championships have been ranked. The complicated bit is to use data that tells how fast the very top orienteers in each age class run when compared with the speediest orienteers of all – the H21’s. So for example a top-ranked D65 is only expected to cover 480 metres in the same time as a top H21 covers a kilometre. This age/ class factor data is used to adjust Club members’ actual results, to make everyone comparable.

The “official” championship course for the adults was the Short course, which was an actually not-that-short 4.1km straight-line. For the girls and boys, the Novices course (2.3km straight-line) was the challenge. A few keenies ran the Long course, and their times have been reduced to 65% of their actual result, because the Short course was only 65% as long. A similar type of adjustment has also been used to see how the boys and girls compare with the adults.

The full Championship rankings are attached.

The official results for the event are, as usual, to be found on the Helga results page, at O2LUX #17 Luxembourg City Race . From this you can also see that our Luxembourg National Champions – in other words, the fastest runners before any age/ class adjustments are made – are Cedric G (Men) and Sonia K (Women).

The Organisers hope that you all enjoyed your runs round a rather grey and damp Limpertsberg. At least the frost had melted! On the previous day there had been some verglas, and one or two paths had been closed - apologies to anyone who was on the Long Course and was put off by the “no pedestrians” sign just before control 13, which had been left out despite the thaw. And apologies also to anyone who was slightly confused at control 144 – it was unfortunately hung on the wrong bush, about 30 metres west of the correct one.

Big thanks to all who helped make the event happen.

  • Cedric G for making the map.
  • Julien G for planning the courses, with lots of route choices and some tricky bits in the park and the university campus.
  • Elisabet W and her family for hosting the whole event underneath their home, and for collecting controls.
  • Michael H for – as ever – handling the entries, and flawless timekeeping on the day.

A peaceful and happy Christmas to all Club members, and we look forward to welcoming you back for more orienteering in 2025.
