Historic Podium Finish for Luxembourg at EYOC

 July 18th        2

Marie Anna Kotecká stunned the field of more than 100 runners in the W16 category at the European Youth Orienteering Championship, finishing 5th on the long distance. Marie Anna had already made history by becoming the first orienteer to represent Luxembourg in a major championship, but clinching a podium finish upon her debut in the national team jersey, beating the best Scandinavians, Swiss, Czechs and other Central Europeans, is nothing short of sensational. She put on a steady performance in the extremely hilly event in a verdant deciduous forest near Brno, Czechia, hovering around the 5th place for much of the 4.1-kilometre race. Marie Anna will be in action again tomorrow in the sprint race. EYOC will wrap up on Sunday with relays.
